R. C. Sproul, R.I.P. by Patrick Henry Reardon

Quodlibet

R. C. Sproul, R.I.P.

We at Touchstone mourn the recent passing of Dr. R. C. Sproul, a devout Christian thinker and writer, who was among the clearest and most strenuous exponents of classical Calvinism during our lifetime. Although his avowed opposition to ecumenism generally—and, in particular, his criticism of the 1994 declaration Evangelicals and Catholics Together—apparently placed him outside the consensus of "Mere Christianity" promoted in this journal, we detected a spiritual kinship in Sproul's sustained defense of biblical authority and his preference for traditional, rational (even Thomistic) apologetics. May his memory be eternal.

—Patrick Henry Reardon

Patrick Henry Reardon is pastor emeritus of All Saints Antiochian Orthodox Church in Chicago, Illinois, and the author of numerous books, including, most recently, Out of Step with God: Orthodox Christian Reflections on the Book of Numbers (Ancient Faith Publishing, 2019).
