Professor & Author
Steven Faulkner is Professor of Creative Writing and American Literature at Longwood University in southern Virginia. He is the author of Waterwalk: A Passage of Ghosts (2007) and Bitterroot: Echoes of Beauty and Loss (2016). Both books are memoirs of father-son journeys that followed the paths of missionary priests: Marquette (in Waterwalk) and De Smet (in Bitterroot). He has worked as a dishwasher, lawn mower, roofer, dump truck driver, concrete truck driver, carpet cleaner, grave vault planter, and for fourteen years as a carpenter while earning his doctorate. He and his wife Joy have seven children and eleven grandchildren.
