My four grandparents were born in Greece and emigrated to America around 1930, where they married and gave birth to my parents around 1940. The tight-knit Greek community and the ethnocentric nature of the Greek Orthodox Church allowed me to witness, and to a lesser degree participate in, the immigrant experience.
