Words Fitly Spoken

Language in the Liturgy: Past, Present, Future by Barry Spurr

The future of the liturgy, and the language that is used in it . . . belongs to the young. The generations, now passing, that have been busy destroying it . . . are mostly now in their dotage, while the architects of and participants in Vatican Two are dead. (Barry Spurr, Language in the Liturgy, 338)

This somber assessment of the state of vernacular liturgy in the Western churches is the context within which this extraordinary book has been written.
